Communicating Across Styles and Generations:
Think on Your Feet®
Storytelling for Leaders and Teams

Communication in the Age of AI: Practical Tools for Better Team Collaboration
Work Does Not Always Get Stuck Because People Lack Capability
Sometimes…They Simply Do Not Understand One Another
In organizations, we often assume that problems happen because people are uncooperative, irresponsible, or not capable enough. But sometimes, the explanation is much simpler:
Capable people are speaking different languages.
One person speaks quickly, directly, and focuses on results. Another needs details before feeling confident enough to move forward.
Some people think out loud and respond immediately. Others need time to process before offering a thoughtful answer.
When we do not understand these differences, an ordinary meeting can quickly become a test of everyone’s patience.
One person is thinking: “I have explained this three times. How can they still not understand?”
Meanwhile, the other person is thinking: “You have spoken so quickly. When exactly was I supposed to understand?”
And occasionally, everyone nods beautifully in agreement—then leaves the room and works in completely different directions.
Good Communication Does Not End When We Finish Speaking
The important question is not only: “What have we said?”
It is also: “What did the other person understand, and what are they ready to do next?”
This becomes even more important in conversations within teams and across teams, where people often differ in personality, thinking style, priorities, urgency, and even the professional language they use.
One department talks about quality. Another hears “delay.”
One team talks about speed. Another hears “careless.”
Someone says, “Please give us the brief version.” The other person begins with the history of the company’s founding.
Most organizations do not suffer from a lack of communication. People communicate all day, through meetings, emails, messages, presentations, and occasionally a reply-all that nobody asked for.
What may be missing is a set of practical tools that help people communicate with the right person, in the right way, at the right time.
Good Conversations Require More Than Good Intentions
Good intentions matter. But in real workplace situations, people also need tools they can use immediately.
Communicating Across Styles and Generations: helps us understand how different people receive information, make decisions, and respond to situations. It enables us to adapt how we communicate without having to change who we are.
Think on Your Feet® helps people organize their thoughts, speak concisely, handle difficult situations with communication techniques, and respond with confidence, especially when there is no opportunity to open a 30-slide presentation.
Storytelling for Leaders helps turn information people may quickly forget into a message they can understand, relate to, and act upon.
Some situations need clear information. Some need a strong structure. And some need a story to connect with both the mind and the heart.
Communication Matters Even More in the Age of AI
In the age of AI, information is faster, more accessible, and easier to generate than ever before. But having more information does not automatically create better understanding. AI can help us draft messages, summarize data, and prepare presentations, but AI cannot replace the human ability to read the room, adapt to different people, respond clearly under pressure, or tell a story that creates trust and meaning.
As technology becomes more capable, these distinctly human communication skills become even more valuable. The future will not belong only to those who know how to use AI, but to those who can use it while still communicating with clarity, empathy, and impact.
Teams That Communicate Well Do Not Necessarily Speak the Same Way
They know:
how to communicate with different people
how to structure their thinking clearly
when to use a story to help everyone see the same picture.
Good communication is not simply the natural gift of a talented speaker. It is the ability to make understanding easier for others.
When people across an organization have practical communication tools, meetings become more than places where information is exchanged. They become spaces where understanding is built, decisions become clearer, and collaboration becomes easier.
Because ultimately: Organizations are not moved forward by the messages that are sent. They are moved forward by the meaning people understand together.
And when conversations change, the way people think, collaborate, and deliver results changes too.
